TASK
Okay, Band Directors! Here is a list of things you need to decide on. Are you going to be a competitive band? Half-time only? This may influence your choices. Do you want to march Corps Style? High Step? Scramble Drill? Make your group unique and stand out.
- First, you need to create a look for your band. What kind of uniforms do you want? Something traditional? Modern? Edgy? You will pick the uniforms out from head to toe. Don't forget, your Drum majors will need to look slightly different to make them stand out from the rest of the band.
- Next, you need to search through music and decide on a theme for your show. For example, do you want a jazz show, an Egyptian show, a Latin show? It's all up to you.
- After that, you need to select 3-4 songs that go with the theme (NO LONGER THAN 7 minutes TOTAL).
- Come up with a signature style of marching for your band. Are you going to be a competitive band? Half-time only? This may influence your choices. You will have to make a tough decision on whether to write your own marching band drill or to order it. Remember, that it is expensive, but often worth the money due to time constraints and creativity.
- Once you make that decision, you must find color guard costumes, flags and accessories that will make your show come to life.
